OMG 2 Months Today!!!!!!!!!

That's right, 2 months from today I will be getting ready to marry my darling Mr Mel!

How on earth has it come around so quickly, we only got engaged yesterday (ok so Feb 14 but feels like yesterday!).

Things are happening, we're getting through the list, the weekend just gone ticked a few big items off:

  • Passport for Me! - I had a passport, however it expired 2 years ago, seeings as our honeymoon is in Vanuatu, would've sucked for Mr Mel to have headed off solo!
  • Suit for Mr Mel - we were going to hire a suit, but nowhere hired the colour we I wanted.

Originally we were going with a Taupe colour, something like this photo
However after going to 5 separate formal hire places in Newcastle it wasn't looking good, none of them had suits to hire in the colour, and what they did have to buy in the colour had a cream pinstripe, which we didn't like.

The next colour to have caught our eye was grey, so Mr Mel tried on a few different options and we ended up buying a 3 piece darkish grey suit, with an ivory shirt & tie.  The ivory will match my dress, and he can wear the tie if he wants, but probably won't.  I love the waistcoat look above, and when Mr Mel tried his suit on without the jacket & tie, I knew it was the one, he looked so handsome and swish!
This is similar to the suit we've purchased, however with the same colour waistcoat, ivory shirt & tie.
I was sick with cold/flu and spent most of Sat arvo (after shopping) to Sun night either in bed or on the couch dozing, but it was good to get some of the 'To Do's' done!

Last night we finalised our selections for vows and ceremony and emailed them to our celebrant.

Next weekend I'm going shopping for my shoes, Brideslave shoes, Bra & Suckitallin Underwear for me.  And hopefully getting onto the elusive DIY Bunting project!

Clothing Mr Mel

While trawling websites for ideas for decorations for our wedding I happened upon a photo that jumped out at me.

Mr Mel wants to keep his clothing 'weddingy' but not too stuffy, no tie was high, well top of the list!

Option 1 for Mr Mel's suit for the day
I loved the casual look with the sleeves partly rolled up, open neck, no tie, but still the waistcoat keeps it neat, tidy, and 'formal' to a point.  And love the colour, different to the normal dark suits. Plus it's something he could wear alot, either to the races, other weddings, parties etc.

And the best thing when I emailed the photo to Mr Mel, his reply was

"Looks pretty smart i reckons."

And in Mr Mel speak that's a glowing endorsement :)  yay!

The Ring - pt 3

Following on from pt 2 - we are heading to Sydney on Saturday morning to pick up our engagement ring!!  Yay!  Very exciting, we met with the jeweller 2 weeks ago, and they've been working on it since, so Saturday is the day!

Sure I had a frantic email to them around 2am one morning when I panicked that I hadn't explained a crucial part properly, and then had a follow up call from the jeweller reassuring me all was ok and that alot of girls do the same!

While we're there we're going to pick out our wedding bands also, I'm going plain white gold, Mr Mel is having white gold with some sort of texture, unsure as yet.

So hopefully the photo I post on this blog with the ring on my finger will look exactly (please engagement ring/jewellery gods look kindly upon me) like the one we picked.

The photo we gave them to work off
Here's hoping!!

He Proposed!! :)

I know we've done it a bit about face, but rules are made to be broken aren't they?

Last night Mr Mel proposed (yay!), while we both knew it was a given, he still managed to surprise me!

He had booked dinner at one of our favourite restaurants Sanctuary, and on the drive there he asked if I wanted to have another look at the Hall (our future venue).  I had been trying to remember the name of the caterer listed on the wall at the Hall to get a quote, so thought that's a great idea.

When we arrived there was a pilates group in the hall, so we wrote down the name of the caterer, and Mr Mel stood back and looking at the view, commented how perfect a spot it will be.  Then he gave me a Valentines Day card.

In the card he said some lovely stuff I won't list here (heehee), but ended the card with a PTO, on the back he'd written "I can't wait to have Valentines dinner tonight with my fiance', and I read it, looked at him and said no way!  He replied with 'Chickadee will you marry me'.  Of course I said yes  :)

Such a perfect spot to have done it, I'm so proud of him, for keeping it a secret and picking the spot of our future marriage to propose, makes me tear up thinking of it :)

So we headed off to Sanctuary newly engaged, and was greeted by a glass of champagne, and a delicious dinner, a night to remember forever!

So there you go, we're engaged!!  We're going ring shopping on Saturady, after the tasting at the caterers!

Welcome To Our Surprise Wedding Blog!

Ok so a minor detour from the usual procedure, we're yet to get engaged, but Mr Mel & I have decided to have an engagement party on 23 July 2011, and at that party we'll surprise our loved ones by getting married!

Mr Mel & I have known each for 5 years, been together for 3.5 years, and bought our home 1.5 years ago.

Mr Mel is 38, I'm 37, we're well aware of time ticking by, so we've decided to go a tad against the grain, and hopefully in 2011 we'll get married, and start a family!  No pressure!!

At this stage we have the following sorted:

Date - Saturday 23 July 2011
Venue - Hunter Vally, NSW, Australia

To say we've got a bit to organise in the next 6 months is a bit of an understatement, but I'll document the ride here, as a way to keep on track, and for something to look back on down the track!

Wish me luck,
